I wanted to talk a little bit about fried chicken, a break from the sandwich talk. I was down south and BBQ spots always confuse me with their menu. For example, “bbq” listed without a size or a price. “BBQ chicken combo”, is that BBQ pork and BBQ chicken? Is that BBQ chicken with a side and a drink? What I’ve learned is to just show up and ask what they’re making, it’s always good. On this one menu I saw “fried half chicken” and had no idea what to expect. It was basically one of each piece, fried separately. I specify because I wasn’t sure if I was getting half a chicken fried as one piece, at a different BBQ spot I got a whole wing still attached to the breast. Anyway, it was some of the best fried chicken this Yankee has ever had and it was at a tourist trap truck stop, they must just do it better down there.

Been a big week for fried chicken. When back up north, I decided to check out this new-ish chain popping up called Asad’s. Supposedly bringing the south’s hot chicken to Philadelphia. They give you a giant chicken strip on a thick piece of white bread and let you figure out how to eat it. It was delicious and rivaled what I once had when I was in Nashville, I will certainly be returning to try their hottest spice level to see if it kills me.
